Suddenly, everything is coming up longevity. And skin longevity is everywhere in beauty. The phrase seemed to come out of nowhere in the spring. As 2025 winds down, it’s in just about every beauty brand’s marketing. The word longevity is being awkwardly pushed in Instagram stories, strategically dropped into product names, and deeply explored on podcasts – including in a recent episode of my own podcast here.

Legacy brands like RoC are refreshing and rebooting their brand identities around the concept. French beauty powerhouse Lancôme is reinvigorating decades-old product franchises with longevity science – all supported, of course, by savvy marketing spin.

Key Takeaways:

  • Harnessing trends in longevity science, marketers are seizing upon the concept of longevity to change the conversation about aging.

New brands are bursting onto the scene with the concept of longevity as their entire reason for being. Breakout brand Timebeam is one example. Each morning, I ingest a packet of the brand’s Bounce Mode daily supplement. It’s infused with longevity support, notably an NAD⁺ booster that “supports smoother, younger-looking skin from the inside out.”

My review of one of Timebeam’s topical skincare products, the Skinbeam Milky Serum, is just below.

But what is longevity and, specifically, skin longevity? Is it legitimate science or just a new marketing term for “anti-aging”? Like a lot of beauty marketing, the messaging takes some deciphering. If consumers aren’t confused yet, they certainly will be. We’re just getting a taste of what’s to come – and I’m here to demystify it all.

Before I get into my Timebeam Skinbeam Milky Serum product review below, I wanted to explore the buzzy concept of longevity and how skin longevity differs from anti-aging.

1. What is longevity?

The term longevity refers to the length or duration of an individual’s life – or the lifespan of an object, organism, or system. But in science, wellness, and even the context of skincare, it’s used in a more nuanced way.

  • Longevity is derived from the Latin longus “long” + aevum “age” and can mean living longer than average or simply allude to the duration of an organism’s life.

  • In biology and medicine, longevity refers to the capacity of an organism to sustain life, vitality, and function over time.

  • More recently, longevity is not just about lifespan, but increasingly about “health span,” or how long you stay healthy and resilient.

2. What does skin longevity mean?

Skin longevity refers to the ability of the skin to maintain its health, firmness, elasticity, and overall youthful appearance over time. It encompasses how well the skin resists common triggers of visible signs of aging: wrinkles, sagging, dark spots and other forms of hyperpigmentation.

  • Trending in beauty messaging, skin longevity refers to maintaining youthful, resilient, and functionally younger skin for longer.

  • Factors influencing skin longevity include genetics, lifestyle choices, environmental exposure, skincare habits and nutrition.

  • Skin longevity involves protecting the skin from damage, supporting its natural repair processes, and preserving healthy functions for as long as possible.

When skincare brands use the term “skin longevity” in their messaging, they’re attempting to align with longevity science, focusing less on wrinkle correction and more on preserving cellular vitality to slow the common triggers of aging.

3. What's the difference between skin longevity and anti-aging?

The word longevity is defined as “a long duration of individual life”. More specifically, it refers to living a quality life by maintaining physical and mental health as you age. In skincare, skin longevity is the concept of maintaining your skin’s vitality, resilience, and function over time with a focus on longterm cellular health.

Beauty marketers have quickly muddled the messaging by replacing anti-aging positioning with longevity positioning. However, skin longevity differs from anti-aging in several meaningful ways.

What Is Skin Longevity?

  • Skin longevity is preventative and refers to proactive support of skin health and functions at a cellular level.

  • Supports cell repair, regeneration, barrier reinforcement, and protection against stress and inflammation.

  • The goal: allow the skin to thrive and to remain resilient, minimizing the triggers of aging and maximizing long-term health and radiance.

What Is Anti-Aging?

  • Anti-aging is generally considered corrective and addresses the specific signs of skin aging: lines, wrinkles, sagging, dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

  • Targets surface-level, visible damage rather than cellular health on a deeper level.

  • The goal: erase visible imperfections to give skin the outward appearance of youthfulness.

4. Why is everyone talking about skin longevity?

Harnessing trends in longevity science, beauty marketers have seized upon the concept of longevity to change the conversation about aging. Think of it as an evolution of anti-aging, which has traditionally focused on correction of existing signs of aging. Skin longevity is a more positive spin on product marketing and shifts the focus to sustaining cell life and vitality to deter the effects of aging and prevent triggers of the visible signs of aging.

  • Longevity scientists have identified the “hallmarks of aging” – cellular processes like mitochondrial dysfunction and DNA damage, factors that drive biological aging.

  • Molecules like NAD⁺ boosters, sirtuins and growth factors can directly influence the hallmarks and triggers of skin aging.

  • Beauty brands are tapping into the same science driving human longevity research, including the work of Harvard’s Dr. David Sinclair or the research of Altos Labs and Calico Labs – bio-tech companies researching aging and age-related diseases.

5. Product Review

Beauty marketers are notorious for spinning tales about the science behind their products –often because there’s nothing all that innovative to begin with. Besides, they’re not in the market to educate you; they’re in the market to sell you stuff.

That’s why very few brand tell the truth about anti-aging products. What’s the truth? That up to 90% of visible skin aging is the result of unprotected sun exposure. Thus, the best anti-aging product is a $20 facial sunscreen – not a $200 anti-aging face cream.

It’s refreshing to see a breakout brand like Timebeam bringing skin longevity science to market while also embracing the important educational component of the technology.

And that’s no accident. The brand’s founder and driving force is Dr. Lamees Hamdan – a renowned Integrative Medical Doctor, naturopathic practitioner and longevity expert.

Timebeam launched in the spring of 2025 with a range of topical skincare and oral beauty supplements – all of which are formulated to target cellular health. That is, they target skin longevity with a 360˚ inner-outer approach.

I’ve been fascinated by the brand since I was first introduced to it in my work as a product innovation judge in the 2025 Beauty Matter awards. The Timebeam Skinbeam Milky Serum was submitted for consideration in the skincare (treatment) category.

Formulated with an NAD⁺ booster, it was among the most innovative products I came across. If you’re just hearing the term recently, NAD, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, is a coenzyme found in all living cells. It plays a central role in metabolic energy and cellular repair.

The innovative NAD⁺ booster found in Timebeam’s Skinbeam Milky Serum is powered by a blend of sunflower sprout extract and maltodextrin – a complex that is proven to elevate NAD⁺, enhance DNA repair, and improve mitochondrial markers.

Additionally, the formula is infused with Niacinamide, Vitamin C, peptides and Hyaluronic Acid. Along with the NAD⁺ booster, all are found at active levels in the top ten ingredients in the INCI.

The ultra-lightweight, milky texture is easily layered into an existing routine to amplify the benefits to your skin health. I apply a few drops every morning before my antioxidant serums, face cream and sunscreen.

By pairing the Skinbeam Milky Serum with Timebeam’s Bounce Mode supplement each morning, I’m following Dr. Lamees’ guidance to care for your skin holistically, from the inside-out.

If you’re intrigued by the concept of skin longevity as a means of preventing aging triggers and optimizing the health of your skin, Timebeam is a great place to start.

6. Pros & Cons

What I like about it: The Timebeam Skinbeam Milky Serum is perhaps the most legitimate of the skin longevity skincare to hit the marketplace this year. The stack of NAD⁺ booster, antioxidants, peptides and hydrating humectants are precisely what your skin needs if you’re looking to optimize your skin health and deter skin aging long term.

What I don’t like about it: I love everything about it.

Who it’s for: All skin types.
